Diffuser luminaires - lighting solutions for private and commercial/industrial applications
Robust, versatile and functional - diffuser luminaires are the perfect lighting solution for demanding and damp environments. Whether in workshops, basements or garages: these powerful luminaires provide uniform, glare-free light and can withstand even extreme conditions. Discover how diffuser luminaires can ideally illuminate your work and hobby area with their robust design and practical application options.
Areas of application for diffuser lights
Rely on reliable diffuser lights that ensure a clear view even in damp and dirty environments. Thanks to their comprehensive protection against water and dust as well as their high impact resistance, they can easily withstand light impacts. Perfectly suited for the following locations:
- Damp and wet rooms: cellar, laundry room or garage
- Industry and trade: workshop, production hall
- Outdoor areas: Car parks, entrance areas or in carports
- Agriculture: stables, barns or greenhouses
What should you consider when buying diffuser lights?
When buying diffuser lights, there are a few important factors that ensure optimum lighting and durability. From the protection class to the light intensity - we explain what is important to find the ideal light for your location.
Length
Diffuser lights are available in different lengths. Small lights of 61-80 cm, for example, are ideal for cellars, while larger lights between 121 and 150 cm are ideal for warehouses or stables. As a rule, the larger the diffuser light, the larger the illuminated area.
IP protection class
The protection class shows you how well your light is protected against dust and water. The higher the protection class, the more reliably the light will function even in demanding environments. Find out which protection classes are ideal for your needs:
IP65: dust-tight/protected against water jets
IP66: dust-tight/protected against strong water jets
IP67: dust-tight/protected against submersion up to 30 cm
IP68: dust-tight/protected against submersion under the conditions specified by the manufacturer
Luminous flux
The luminous flux of your light determines the brightness, measured in lumens. The higher the luminous flux, the brighter your lighting will be.
Find the right illuminance
The right illuminance plays an important role in the choice of diffuser light and the number of lights required. Here, 1 lux = 1 lumen per square metre (m²). Depending on how you use the room, e.g. a cellar for simple storage requires less light than a production hall where work is carried out. The lux value differs depending on how you intend to use the selected room
Examples of illuminance in different rooms:
- Basement
As the cellar is often used as a storage or storeroom, discreet lighting is sufficient to illuminate the room sufficiently and give you a clear overview of your storage. Recommended: 100-150 lux - Laundry room
The illuminance in the laundry room should be sufficient to enable simple activities such as washing and ironing to be carried out safely and comfortably. Recommended: 200 lux - Workshop
Precise work is carried out in workshops, so high illuminance is required. Recommended: 300-500 lux - Garage In garages, only vehicles are parked or minor work is carried out for which high illuminance is not required. A low lux value is therefore sufficient. Recommended: 75-100 lux.
- Multi-storey car park/carport
Only vehicles are parked and unparked, so only low illuminance is required here too. Recommended: 50-100 lux. - Warehouse
The illuminance in warehouses where forklift trucks are used and goods are stored should have a high lux value to guarantee a safe and efficient working environment. Recommended: 300-500 lux - Stables
In stables, moderate lighting ensures sufficient visibility and protects the well-being of the animals, while balanced lighting also improves the working conditions for the carers. Recommended: 80-150 lux - Barn
In barns, which are often used to store equipment or hay, only low illuminance is required. Recommended: 100-150 lux
Calculation examples:
By calculating the required lumens, you can determine the optimum lighting for each environment. This increases the safety and efficiency of the respective activity.
20m² basement: 20m² x 150 lux = 3000 lumens
25m² garage: 25m² x 100 lux = 2500 lumens
100m² warehouse: 100m² x 200 lux = 20,000 lumens
Light colour
The light colour is measured in colour temperature (Kelvin). A distinction is made between three light colours:
- Warm white: 2700 to 3300 Kelvin, yellowish light, creates a cosy and relaxed atmosphere
- Neutral white: 3300 to 5000 Kelvin, white light, without a pronounced yellow or blue tint, promotes concentration
- Cold white: over 5000 Kelvin, white light with a blue tinge, resembles daylight and increases concentration
The advantages of diffuser lights
- Protected against water jets and dust: Our diffuser lights are certified to at least IP65 protection class.
- Durability: High impact resistance (IK protection) and the robust design make the lights particularly resistant.
- Uniform illumination: Uniform and glare-free lighting is achieved thanks to the wide beam pattern.
- For indoor and outdoor use: Thanks to the effective protection rating and robust design, the lights are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
- Series connection: Many diffuser luminaires can be wired together to illuminate larger areas.
Whether you want to illuminate a hall, garage or carport, with our robust diffuser lights you can illuminate any desired area and provide bright light for greater safety. Buy the diffuser light that suits you in the ETC Shop!
Frequently asked questions
What protection rating should a diffuser light have in order to function safely in damp rooms?
For use in damp rooms, such as the bathroom, a minimum protection rating of IP44 (protection against splashing water) is required. For particularly damp and/or dusty areas, such as garages or halls, a higher protection rating such as IP65 is recommended, which ensures that the luminaire is dust-tight and protected against water jets from all directions.
Are diffuser luminaires also suitable for outdoor use?
If the diffuser light is expressly labelled as suitable for outdoor use and has the appropriate protection rating (at least IP65), it can be used outdoors without any problems.
How does the installation of diffuser luminaires work?
To ensure correct and safe installation, switch off the power and prepare the chosen installation location (mark the position, attach the brackets, prepare the cable). Attach the light and wire it with the prepared cable as described in the installation instructions. Finally, switch the power back on. If you do not have sufficient specialist knowledge and experience, have the lamps connected by qualified specialists for your own safety !
