Basically , the classic pendant light hangs freely from the ceiling, while a wall light, for example, is fixed to the wall. The pendant lamp is usually connected to a textile or plastic cable that illuminates the surrounding area for even light distribution. This provides a pleasant light, especially in the area directly below the light. Before buying a pendant light, you should consider the following points:

1. Ceiling height and room size: check the ceiling height and the size of the room in which the pendant light is to be installed so that a bright light is optimally staged.

Suspended and pendant lights: Always at the right height

A pendant light should neither hang too low so that it disturbs, nor too high so that it can no longer illuminate the area below. Follow our general recommendations for appropriate rooms to find the optimum height:

• In the hallway: in rooms of normal height (2.30 to 2.40 metres), the lamps should be positioned around 20 to 45 centimetres below the ceiling.
• Pendant light above the dining table: 75 centimetres between the table top and the lower edge is good - i.e. slightly higher than above a coffee table. Pendant lights look particularly aesthetically pleasing here.
• Abovethe kitchen island: To ensure that you can work easily, you should install the pendant light at shoulder height (standing).
• Abovethe bedside table: There should be at least 30 centimetres of space between the table and the pendant light. Of course, this also depends on how high you are lying due to the pillows and whether there are any tall objects on the bedside table.
• Above the coffee table: 65 to 70 centimetres between the lower edge of the light and the table top.
